Brendan's Notes

Anthurium ‘Stripy’ is a plant I acquired from Bill Rotolante at Silver Krome Gardens a few years ago.

What I love most about this plant are obviously the striped veins, but it also has incredibly dark leaves with a distinctive texture that almost reminds me of elephant skin.

It is generally a strong grower and has also been a really useful breeding plant for me, both as a seed parent and as a pollen parent. I’ve made some great crosses with it, including crosses into other plants carrying striped traits, such as some of my Araña x Stripy hybrids

One thing I’ve noticed from breeding with it is that the striped trait appears to be incredibly recessive. Across the crosses I’ve made, only a limited number of offspring have actually expressed the striped venation. That said, when the trait does come through, the resulting offspring can be incredible. It may take larger numbers of seedlings and some patience to get the trait you’re looking for, but when it does show up, it can produce some exceptional plant
