Brendan's Notes
I got BVEP ‘Elefont’ from Scott around 2021. It is a seed-grown BVEP, a plant that would later be described as Anthurium antolakii, a species named after Rory Antolak.
Elephant is a vigorous grower with really dark, almost jet black velvety leaves and a pillowy texture.
The leaves have a distinctive shape and tend to fold down on either side of the midrib. When you look at a mature leaf it almost looks like an elephant’s head, which is where the name Elefont (my friend Chris named it bad spelling and all, lol) came from.
The emergents can come in a really deep red, especially when grown in cooler temperatures. They are also pretty sensitive when emerging and can pick up marks fairly easily before the leaf hardens.
It has always been a really good grower for me and is also an great mother plant.
I have used Elefont extensively in my breeding program. It has produced a lot of great offspring and the dark leaves, texture and vigorous growth make it a plant I keep coming back to.
