Brendan's Notes

Anthurium carlablackiae ‘Buz 3’ is an exceptional selection from an RA10 × RA13 cross I made several years ago. Although this particular cross produced only a handful of seedlings, one plant immediately stood out from the rest for its distinctive veining and dark leaves.

Both parents originate from the Rory Antolak's carlablackiae collection, with RA 10 known for its exceptionally dark, rounded foliage and RA 13 for its distinctive venation and striking coloration.

What makes ‘Buz 3’ particularly special is how beautifully it combines characteristics from both parents. The plant develops exceptionally dark, rounded leaves that remain relatively small compared with those of its RA 10 seed parent.

It has inherited the beautiful, almost jet-black coloration of RA 10, while displaying the distinctive vein structure and coloration associated with RA 13. This combination creates a particularly striking appearance, with beautifully defined venation contrasting against the dark foliage.

Unlike the larger leaves typically associated with RA 10, ‘Buz 3’ maintains a smaller leaf size while retaining the rounded shape and exceptional coloration that make its seed parent so desirable.

For me, the combination of its dark foliage, distinctive venation, and compact leaf proportions makes this an incredibly unique carlablackiae.

Of the few seedlings produced from this cross, this particular plant was an obvious standout, and its exceptional characteristics have certainly earned it the ‘Buz 3’ name.
