Brendan's Notes

BWMDB 2 is one of the selections from one of the first Anthurium crosses I ever made, combining my Black Widow × Michelle, originally purchased from Tezula, with a Dorayaki BVEP that I got from Scott.

The Dorayaki BVEP pollen parent is a really nice plant with exceptionally velvety, almost perfectly round leaves and a distinctive kissing sinus. My goal with this cross was to combine the dark leaves and spidery venation of Black Widow × Michelle with the compact growth habit and rounded leaf shape of Dorayaki BVEP.

The cross produced a number of beautiful plants, with three in particular standing out for how different they were from one another.

BWMDB 2 turned out very differently from BWMDB 1. It produces much larger, rounder leaves with really nice branching, spidery veins. One of my favorite characteristics of this plant is its ruffled leaf edges, which give the leaves a distinctive shape and texture.

Although the leaves get considerably larger than those of BWMDB 1, the plant still maintains a fairly compact growth structure. It is a slightly slower grower but has been relatively easy to grow.

BWMDB 2 is a really nice example of how different plants from the same cross can turn out. Despite sharing exactly the same parents as BWMDB 1 and BWMDB 3, all three have developed very different leaf shapes, venation and growth characteristics.
